Birthday started early with a little online message on Friday
Have a Happy Birthday! it said.
Started the festivities early too.. midnight - oh - one and I was pounding back the boddington's at my friend's party. Cops showed three times but didn't hassle us too much so I can't really complain.
Saturday I wasn't up sharp at 8am like I said but it was 10:30 or so with a hard cider and donuts in hand.
Did you know the donut was invented in Maine?
Got gads of birthday wishes by telephone all day from people I haven't heard from in ages - something I've never experienced before. I don't know why they all chose this year for it but it came together well, culminating in a 20 minute long late night 4:35am ramble-message from my good pal in Santa Barbara which ended with the machine cutting him off in a particularly funny manner:
"
... So you remember Maria? She called me the other day - remember she was smoking hot and she called me, you remember Maria right? And she re-affirmed her desires to bed me and that she wanted to bear my child[beep]"
Got a call right as we were heading to the bars - it was a garbled and loud situation on the other end, clearly someone at a bar, and the only information I was able to gather was the particular bar they were at so our first stop was that bar to find out who the mystery caller was - ended up being an old high school friend who just happened to be in the port city this weekend. Strange how the world works.
Didn't sleep enough Friday so the champagne mixed with the half-gallon jug of homebrew mixed with the bottle of cheap Boone's apple wine mixed with the Hampshire Ale mixed with the Jagermeister shot mixed with the absolut and tonic mixed with the long island iced teas didn't sit as well as it could have, perhaps. Needless to say I didn't make it till closing time as I was falling asleep on my feet by 12:30am..
If i was smart...
But I said I'd do it up and get stinky drunk and that's what I did so I feel like my goals were fully accomplished. I visited my favourite porcelain friend at the end of the evening in an attempt to forgo the morning hangover but I didn't completely manage to kill it off.
Walked around the Old Port Festival with the pals to work off any ill feelings down in the guts and give a gander at the goings-on. It was a bit on the anemic side due to the drizel but I still ran into a few people and caught a movie - A Mighty Wind - which was not as great as I was hoping but still a good showing nonetheless.
Having made it through the Birthday weekend alive the Monkey of the 25th is off my back and I can finally move on with life. I've accepted my fate as a creepy old man.
