Someone over at Slashdot mentioned the DefCon WiFi Shootout - a contest to see who can send a WiFi signal the farthest, essentially. The winners this year managed to do it with $98 worth window screen, duct tape, metal poles, and cardboard. They concepted the design the night before and assembled it in the rain in the Nevada desert to pull off a distance of 35.2196 miles. Wow. link
