And I just ran across elizabethspiers site where her most recent post is this bit about interviewing Chuck Palahniuk, author of Fight Club. He is, apparently, a member of the Portland Chapter of the National Cacophony Society - a group of pranksters who seemingly pull off stuff very very similar (really, worth a browse through the pictures - and 8 hours of drunken santa'ing.. that's some major commitment) to flash mobs and who have been doing it for a lot longer, too.

elizabeth goes on to point out the gawker collection of flash mob articles..
