The collider will consume as much energy as all the households in Geneva, running up an annual electric bill of $30 million, according to an article in the Los Angeles Times and other places. No doubt many people have asked this question.

All in all, $30 million a year seems kind of cheap, really. 
CERN's Large Hadron Collider is on Boston.com's The Big Picture. Sweet.
